Technical situation modern Russia
It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very popular nowadays. Since school a lot of young people suppose this profession to be very interesting. With such an viewpoint they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a university and finally they begin educating their own children that way. Blind alley.
Why is it so? What do make people think that technological sciences have lost their importance?
There are several causes.
firstly modern machinery achieved such a high level of growth that society is capable of operating it without having specialized technological knowledge. thereby there is no point for subsequent dissemination of technical skill. Humanits use starts dominating in all spheres of life.
second it is an actual fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They want to depict the world around and consume products, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not influence positively on spreading of technological education. People are simply not concerned with it.
Thirdly the resource base has achieved such a degree of desolation that we often have no place for work after studying the theory.
at last a very important thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it suppose as called-for nowadays? We can easily find out it by researching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what ways of life do they promote today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media present us pleasant, nice life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a after all?
Lack of competent workers in the engineering sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a heavy-duty jointer planer. This will lead to a dangerous situation when we will be lacking very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified teachers able to train worthy personnel working in non-humanist spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our society do in order to correct the situation? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our state should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. education system should do its best in order to popularize engineering specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve engineering specialities is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
